New Campus Entranceway Named for Sue Benton Birdsong
The recently renovated main entrance was named "The Sue Benton Birdsong Entrance Gate at Virginia Wesleyan University" in memory of the late Sue Benton Birdsong. Sue, a longtime Virginia Wesleyan benefactor and friend, passed away March 25, 2020.
The strength of Virginia Wesleyan today can be traced in significant ways to Sue and her husband, Trustee Emeritus George Y. Birdsong, the Birdsong Corporation and Birdsong families. The University has benefited tremendously from their genuine interest in student success.
With gratitude and to pay tribute to Sue’s memory, a plaque has been added to the University’s new brick entranceway sign. The naming of campus icons and buildings tells the story of the Virginia Wesleyan campus, the University’s culture and the many people who have helped build the institution’s history.
